A bit about Katie Kelly
Katie was born with Usher Syndrome, a rare deaf and blind degenerative condition. As Katie is now legally blind, she classifies to compete in the Vision Impaired PT5 category for Paratriathlon. Her aim is to make the Australian Paratriathlon team for the 2016 Rio Paralympics where the sport will debut at the Paralympic level. Paratriathlon consists of a 750m swim; 20km cycle and a 5km run. For the race Paratriathletes are tethered to a guide for the swim, they ride on a tandem bike and are tethered again for the run. Katie’s guide is also 2 x ITU, 2006 Ironman world champion and Sydney Olympic Silver Medallist – Michellie Jones.
